Hi Joel,

Thanks for stopping by! And you're not the only one waiting for the "Classic New Mutants" volume 2 trade. I've always wondered how the artwork in the Demon Bear issues would look without the coloring. (I suspect the answer is: rather cool.)

Thanks for that! I was planning a pro-Dani post on my own blog... Dani's long been one of my favorite characters too! At first, being a guy and from the South, I was drawn to Sam, but eventually Dani's stronger presence took over. I mean, if you read the initial issues of "New Mutants," which you so obviously have, it's practically "The Dani Story." Although I'm not sure why Claremont had her depicted as always donning super-skimpy outfits at the drop of a hat and at least twice waking up a captive of mysterious agents after having been re-clothed by them. Strange Claremontish obsessions, I guess.

Gen 13's Rainmaker is pretty much a rip-off of Dani in a number of ways, but with a more cartoonish personality.

No complaints from me about how she quickly became the central character in "New Mutants"- she's just that cool. I don't mind that they depowered her so much. At least that fate doesn't invalidate all the previous stories about her- as convoluted and confusing as they sometimes are with all the power changes and Valkyrie stuff- the way DC's revamp of Cassandra Cain destroyed her back catalog.

Through it all, Dani's stayed recognizably Dani. And I definitely agree about the Native American stuff. It always seemed more inspired by cowboy movies than real Native American culture.

Regardless, I'll always have a soft spot for Dani and you nailed exactly why! I'm looking forward to the "Classic New Mutants" second volume to re-read all the Demon Bear saga.

Randomly noting: apparently a measurable number of visitors who came to our site this month were using the search phrase "wild girls." I have a vague suspicion they may not have found what they were looking for.

As far as I know the author is primarily an animator (he's worked on A Bug's Life and some other Pixar stuff) although he may be working on something called "Tags" if google is not lying to me.

Thanks for dropping by and the kind words! It's an honor. Wild Girl is one of my favorite series and Rosa one of my favorite characters, so I hope the series could be revisited in the future...

Hi, this is Leah Moore and John Reppion here; the authors of Wild Girl. We just wanted to let you know that we are still very, very proud of the series and it gives us enormous satisfaction to know that there are people out there (especially girls) who enjoyed it and continue to do so. Thanks for all your kind words about the series but, more than that, thanks for actually getting the whole thing.

Cheers
