Notes from the sidelines

1. Organization for Transformative Works

The Organization for Transformative Works (OTW) is a nonprofit organization established by fans to serve the interests of fans by providing access to and preserving the history of fanworks and fan culture in its myriad forms.

2. DS Status

I think I could possibly describe my status as more over committed than Wolverine in Marvel crossover arc. Except that I’m not Canadian, have no metal bones, and lack a Broadway level singing voice.  Christmas absence of internet access is forthcoming, and I’ll finally have my analysis software (been waiting a bit for it) to complete my market research reports for the new year.

3. Steph HeroClix.

I am now the proud owner of about 20 Spoiler HeroClix.  Don’t quite know what to do with them yet either, other than really screw with the mind of my Tim Drake HeroClix

4. Commentary on Various Topics

  1. Creators + fans = two points of pressure, one from competitive industry, one from the market. That’s how the fanboy movement have been doing their pressure influence of comics, no reason anyone else can’t follow suit.
  2. Booster Gold Ep 5.  Look at the blackboards.  Tell me something, naysayer community, how’s that not a hat-tip to our site? (thank you to Mary for the heads up)
  3. WFA.  Thank you Ragnell and Kalinara for running WFA your way, and doing what you want with the site.  Double bonus thank you with a side of Christmas drinks for keeping this disorganised comic blog reader in the loop.

5. 30 Second Film review:Gabriel.  Everything that is wrong with writing a film that is coated in privilege cookie dough and half baked with a batch of entitlement cakes.  Seriously, this could have been the awesome movie of the decade with the level of subtext, the plots, the gender switch that was never capitalised on, the overt text of Michael and Gabriel and the totally awesome concept of a 7 on 7 battle for control of purgatory.  One character of colour was played as a alcoholic and no good coward, the other played as a stereotypical drug pushing dealer. One female character was depowered, put in an attempted rape scene to be rescued by Wings-of-Privilege Gabriel, and the other scores one kill, one decent act of spine, and an almost instant death following said act of spine.  Overall, it was crap, and it’s crap that’s annoying me because I’m still brooding about how it could have been so much better.

Finally, remember the reason for the season…. it gives Batman a chance to say his parents are dead.

Merry DeadBatParents everyone!
