Redrawing the gender

September 26, 2006, Filed under: Post Response — @ 2:00 am

Forgive me.

But if the world had to tolerate Supergirl as an Inflatable Sex Doll, it’s only fair that I pick that cover as the inspiration for my gender swap cover.

Let’s see how well I did.
She: Facing the reader.
He: Staring vaguely off somewhere else.
She: poking your eyes out
He: Passively arching her back to better expose his torso.
She: Facially engaged or something.
He: All the facial engagement and expression of a blow-up doll, including the round, open mouth.
She: Wearing black and yellow bodysuit
He: … I’d rather not talk about it

As an aside, anyone want to name my two characters?

  1. Dude. Thank you. Thank you so very, very much.
Only thing missing? Possibility that he's not wearing underwear.
Sting and Bumbleboy. It smacks of ineptitude, and denies him the "man" in his title. Or something. *snerk*

  2. It's probably hard to do with Poser, but he should be arching his back just a wee bit more to make his pecs stand out. Can you stick him in some kind of high heeled shoe or impractical sandle?

I'm having problems coming up with a male character name, but it would definitely end in "boy". If it's not already taken, she should be called Black Mercy*. Thus adding an extra layer of cute fluff vs all business.

Oh, and by day he's a cosmetics rep, likes to shop and chat on the phone, whereas she's a professional boxer or racecar driver.

    Great regender!

*By a character, I know there's a plant named that in DC.

  3. Psst - I don't have Poser 6, but I did get the free Poser 5 download. I was going to try regendering some stock poses, and I found that it was already done for me in the presets - the female poses are *mostly* "sexy" and/or passive - even the "fighting/action/superhero" stet of poses! while the male ones are all mostly "strong" and active - even the wimpy "businessmen at meetings" or "guy sitting on sofa". Not all, but it's really overwhelming, particulalry when you contrast the fight scenes and how the woman holding a sword is just sticking her butt out, instead of hewing away, or the fistfight women are all getting knocked over.

And mirante! you can apply the male poses to the female figure and vice versa. It's really obvious what's wrong with our background level cultural vision, when you do that.

    Emphasis added.

Just goes to show how gendered perception digs into the dark crevices of your brain.
